Pressed wood fuel that outperforms firewood in calorific value
Fuel briquettes are wood fuel made by pressing finely crushed wood raw material. They are an environmentally friendly fuel whose calorific value exceeds that of conventional firewood.
Two main groups are on the market, named after the pressing equipment that makes them: RUF (a German manufacturer of hydraulic presses) and Nestro (mechanical impact presses). Loglander supplies both.

Convenient shape, compact to store
Heat treatment makes them resistant to fungus, mould and insects
Calorific value more than twice that of wood: on a par with coal
High density means long burning: the boiler or stove is loaded 3–4 times less often
An even flame at every stage of burning: no sparks, no crackling, a uniform temperature
No carbon monoxide or compounds harmful to health when burning
Only 1–3% ash (wood chips leave 15–18%, coal 35–40%)
Heating with briquettes, the furnace needs cleaning once a year, and the ash works as fertiliser
RUF briquettes
RUF briquettes are the most popular type of Euro briquette. They are formed by a powerful hydraulic press into a rectangular, brick-like block with the maker’s marking on one side.

Nestro briquettes
Nestro briquettes are made on a mechanical impact press in the classic cylindrical shape, with or without a central hole depending on the equipment. Their small size suits any furnace, and their technical characteristics are similar to RUF.

What is the difference between RUF and Nestro briquettes?
RUF briquettes are rectangular blocks (155 × 65 × 100 mm) formed by a hydraulic press; Nestro briquettes are cylinders of 50–90 mm diameter and 50–120 mm length from a mechanical impact press, with or without a central hole. Their technical characteristics are similar.
What are the specifications of RUF briquettes?
Calorific value 4 250 kcal/kg, moisture not more than 8–10%, ash content not more than 0.7%.
What are the specifications of Nestro briquettes?
Calorific value 4 500–5 000 kcal/kg, moisture under 8%, density 1.08–1.40 g/cm³, ash content 0.1–0.3%.
Why briquettes instead of firewood?
More than twice the calorific value of wood, only 1–3% ash against 15–18% for wood chips, and a boiler or stove that needs loading 3–4 times less often.
